Banahan shows Bath what they’ll be missing

- RALPH ELLIS

MATT BANAHAN scored the crucial try to take Bath third in the Premiership table, fuelling the debate among angry fans about why he has been allowed to leave. The giant former England winger, who will end 12 years at the Rec when he signs for Gloucester in the summer, pounced on a mistake just before half-time and sprinted to the line. It gave Todd Blackadder’s side breathing space after a tough opening that had seen them go 6-0 down before hauling their way back with three Freddie Burns penalties. Burns kicked two more penalties after the break and substitute prop Nick Auterac put the result beyond doubt by scoring Bath’s second try. Ross Batty added a third late on.
