More drivers use mobile than speed

-

AN UNMARKED police lorry patrolling England’s major roads has caught ten times as many drivers using their mobile phone at the wheel than it did for speeding.

Of the 4,176 motorists filmed behaving recklessly over two years from April 2015, 2,508 were using their phones while driving. This compares with 249 speeding, 901 not wearing seatbelts and 253 not in proper control of their vehicle.

The figures reveal the scale of the dangerous scourge highlighted by the Mail’s End the Mobile Madness campaign. They were released by Highways England, which will now fund two more of the police ‘supercabs’.
