Cool Christie eyes another world record
THE challenge for Elise Christie today is to prove that the weight of a struggling team on her shoulders is no impediment to good speed skating. The Scot, 27, is on a threepronged medal mission in Pyeongchang and has her first opportunity when she goes for gold in the short track 500m. She broke the Olympic record in her heat on Saturday and faces the challenge of three races in the space of two hours today, starting with the quarter-final and culminating in a possible final shortly after midday. The three-time world champion said: ‘I am hoping I can break my world record. ‘With the 500m, the thing I am most nervous about is the start because I am weak compared to the top girls at the start. In the heat my start went the best in years so that has taken away a lot of nerves for me.’ TV: LIVE on BBC One and Eurosport, Elise Christie from 10am. Andrew Young, men’s 15km cross-country skiing, from 8.30am.
