Driver’s ‘plot to kill Queen and PM’

A SOMALI delivery driver discussed killing David Cameron and the ‘old woman Elizabeth’ – the Queen – before trying to join Islamic State, a jury heard yesterday.

Aweys Shikhey, 38, also talked of attacking Jews and Tottenham Hotspur’s White Hart Lane ground in North London. He tried to raise money by applying for loans, securing £10,000 from Barclays in 2016 for a ‘wedding’, the Old Bailey was told.

In spring 2017, Shikhey borrowed more cash from his boss saying he wanted to visit his two wives and children in Holland and Kenya, but encrypted online chat with friends showed his aim was to join IS.

His plan was exposed when one of the friends was arrested in east Africa suspected of terrorism. A message was found on his computer telling Shikhey: ‘May God bestow you in killing [then prime minister] David Cameron and the old woman Elizabeth.’ The defendant allegedly replied: ‘Amen, brother.’

Shikhey, who has a Dutch passport, denies preparing terrorist acts on or before May 23 last year. The trial continues.
