Delay for attorneys

- v.bischoff@dailymail.co.uk

FAMILIES who were overcharged when applying for power of attorney face delays getting a refund.

One reader told Money Mail how when they called the number (0300 456 0300) an automated voice said that they were 87th in queue. Others say that after holding they have then been told to call back later or cut off.

The cost of calling is up to 10p a minute from a landline and between 3p and 40p from a mobile.

Power of attorney is a vital document that allows someone to make financial decisions on your behalf should you fall ill. Millions who applied between April, 2013 and March, 2017 paid up to £54 too much in fees.

You can apply online for a refund at gov.uk/power- ofattorney-refund.
