We’re going to be dads! Delight for Daley and husband
OLYMPIC diver Tom Daley is expecting his first child with his husband Dustin Lance Black.
The couple announced the news yesterday by sharing a picture of themselves holding an ultrasound scan.
Daley, 23, and Black, 43, said they were ‘thrilled’ to be starting a family.
Alongside the picture, which had 270,000 likes on Instagram in a few hours, Daley wrote: ‘Happy Valentines Day’ with emojis of two men, a child and love hearts.
American screenwriter Black also shared a picture of the pair, writing: ‘A very happy Valentines Day from ours to yours.’ A spokesman for the couple, who married in May last year, said: ‘Tom and Dustin are thrilled to share that they are expecting their first child in 2018.’
The ultrasound picture suggests they are using a surrogate mother, rather than adopting. It is not known who the surrogate mother is or when the baby is due.
Two weeks ago Daley revealed that he and Oscar-winner Black were selling their £1.1million two-bedroom London flat, tweeting that he hoped the property would ‘find a lovely new owner’.
The diver, who grew up in Plymouth, has been at a training camp in Texas for the past week. On Tuesday he joined Black in Hollywood for the Writers’ Guild awards ceremony, where the filmmaker was honoured for his contribution to the industry.
The couple have been together for five years after meeting at an industry event when Daley made the first move by typing his number into Black’s phone. Daley came out as gay in a five-minute YouTube video in 2013 in which he said he was ‘dating a guy and couldn’t be happier’.
They married in 2017 at Bovey Castle in Devon, near Daley’s family home, in front of 120 friends and family.
Last year the diver spoke about wanting to start a family with Black. ‘We’re not planning to have children immediately, but we do want them in the future,’ he told the Daily Mirror. ‘I’ve always been a family person so I’ve always wanted kids, and I know Lance does, too. I don’t know how many – an army of kids, a whole diving team.’
