CUT a single strand of hair from your head after it’s been left to dry naturally (rather than blow-dried or heat styled, which can affect the appearance of your strands).

Don’t pull the hair out, as this will distort the shape of the strand.

Next, place the strand on a piece of white paper — or a dark surface if you have very light-coloured hair — so it shows up clearly.
