Shame on Oxfam

THE African Health Policy Network works with migrant population­s across the UK, and we have long heard first-hand accounts of abuse by aid workers.

These young women are not prostitute­s, but victims of perpetrato­rs who are grossly abusing the trust and privilege afforded them.

We have a broken aid system, one in which the EU controls African countries with its agricultur­al policies and drives down innovation and local production.

A shift to direct investment and trade is long overdue. Shame on Oxfam, shame on the Department for Internatio­nal Developmen­t and shame on the Charities Commission.

And while they are all wringing their hands, perhaps they can tell us where the millions raised by the UK public following the 2010 earthquake in Haiti have been spent. Maureen ndawana, danMOre Sithole, Deryck Browne and

Tendai ndanGa, London e7. My ADVICE to the generous and kind-hearted folk who donate to Oxfam is to give your donations to local charities. you’ll have a far better idea where the money is going.

As for the overseas aid budget, it should be diverted to worthy causes in the UK. Charity begins at home.
