Study groups are students’ true test

- SARAH HARRIS

GCSE and A-level exams are approaching and many students will have planned a revision timetable — but others will find it hard to keep the motivation going.

Specialist Easter revision courses, sometimes called ‘crammers’, are a popular way to make vital preparation less daunting.

These GCSE and A-level courses form only part of an overall revision programme, but can be a springboard for final exams, help boost confidence, cover weak spots and improve exam technique.

Various providers are available, including Justin Craig Education, the UK’s leading supplier of revision packages, which offers courses all year round, but also holds one-day classes that have the benefit of group revision.

Stephen Moore, head of courses at Justin Craig Education, says a good revision plan makes a difference. His advice is to:

PLAN early to ensure enough time for revision and decide how much to devote to each subject.

BUILD in time for practice question and past papers. You will become more comfortable navigating exam papers, but also identify knowledge gaps.

INCLUDE ‘blank’ time close to the exam to revisit subjects, modules or topics you feel require particular last-minute attention.

COLOUR code your revision plan to give a subconscious link to help memory recall in the exam.

Mr Moore adds: ‘Creating a revision plan may take time but can make a real difference to motivation, revision effectiveness, stress management and, ultimately, exam success.’
