Council tax chaos

-

AFTeR reports that council tax is set to increase by £100 a household, I rang my local council tax office. To my astonishment, I was told they do not yet know whether bills will go up for April 2018 to march 2019.

They will be sending out notifications with the same figures as this year, knowing they will be wrong. So I was told to ignore the letter when I get it and await a phone call to be told my new monthly direct debits.

I asked about the cost of wasted postage, phone calls and the followup paperwork. ‘yes, tell me about it,’ was the reply. Mrs BARBARA BENNELL,

Salisbury, Wilts. We NeeD to break up monolithic councils that serve the people of the

old, central authority, to the detriment of the outer areas.

My small town is being used to satisfy Bolton’s planning needs, but receives virtually no support.

The roads are in a shocking state, the green belt is being built on, yet we are being treated as a cash cow.

K. DOWNS, Westhoughton, Gtr Manchester.
