London is tech capital of Europe

-

LONDON continues to attract technology workers despite gloomy predictions it would lose its crown to other European cities.

The UK capital remains by far the biggest hub of software developers, hosting almost 100,000 more than its closest competitor, according to figures from promotional company London and Partners and the tech website Stack Overflow.

There were about 251,140 software developers in London in January, compared to 158,350 in Paris and 88,620 in Madrid.

Some had predicted a mass exodus of these workers after the June 2016 Brexit vote.

But the world’s largest technology companies, including Facebook and Amazon, have made a string of announcements creating hundreds of new jobs in London.

London mayor Sadiq Khan said: ‘ Companies such as Amazon, Apple, Facebook and Google continue to invest in London because of our city’s diverse international tech workforce, and our start-up ecosystem is vibrant and innovative.’
