Train works may derail your Easter getaway

- By James Salmon Transport Editor

RAIL passengers travelling over the Easter weekend will face major disruption once again as engineering works take place across the country.

Network Rail yesterday warned passengers to plan ahead to avoid being affected by the 400 projects scheduled for the bank holiday weekend.

Some 15,000 staff will work on the latest phase of a five-year £50billion upgrade of Britain’s railways over the four-day period. Those travelling between London and Scotland on the West Coast Main Line from Saturday, March 31 to Easter Monday, April 2 must take buses between Glasgow and either Carlisle or Preston.

London Euston will be closed on Easter Sunday, April 1, with reduced services on March 31 and April 2. Routes serving London Paddington will also be affected.

No trains will run from Bristol Parkway and Temple Meads to Yatton and Bath Spa between March 30 and April 3.

Network Rail said lower passenger numbers on bank holidays meant there would be less disruption and that the works would ‘provide faster, better services and help relieve overcrowding’.
