ASK THE PHARMACIST

- Suresh Bagga

Q I’ve lost weight recently, will this affect my dose of steroids or anticoagulants?

AANY unexplained sudden weight loss or gain should be checked by a doctor. If you are lighter because you are on a diet, it’s worth going for a review with your GP as medication doses are dependent on your weight.

Patients on the anticoagulant warfarin already have regular blood tests to check if they’re on the correct dose for their weight. The newer generation of anticoagulants and steroids are less affected by normal weight fluctuations.

However, it’s important to have regular GP reviews to make sure you are on the correct dose.

Q Should I use lip balm every day to protect my lips in winter?

ATHE temptation is to lick them but this will dry them out further as a result of the liquid evaporating. Lip balms offer a protective layer against the cold and seal moisture in.
