I’m taking a year off to ‘fix democracy’, says J-Law (But does that dress need fixing first?)
SPORTING a plunging neckline and thigh-high split, she hardly seems dressed to put the world to rights.
But Hollywood actress Jennifer Lawrence has declared that she is taking a year out from filming – to devote herself to full-time work as an activist to ‘fix democracy’.
The time off should cause no financial hardship for the 27-year- old Hunger Games star, who is worth an estimated £78million.
Miss Lawrence wore the very revealing black dress in chilly London yesterday as she promoted her latest film Red Sparrow, in which she plays a Russian spy.
The daring Versace design was immediately compared by onlookers with the infamous ‘safety pins’ gown, also by Versace, that helped propel Liz Hurley to stardom in 1994. Miss Hurley wore it as she accompanied her then beau Hugh Grant to the premiere of Four Weddings And A Funeral.
Miss Lawrence, who won an Oscar for Best Actress for Silver Linings Playbook in 2013 and who was Hollywood’s highest paid actress in 2015 and 2016, revealed her plans for a sabbatical in an interview with US TV show Entertainment Tonight.
Speaking about her plans to switch from the big screen to
political activism, she said: ‘I’m going to take the next year off. ‘I’m going to be working with this organisation as a part of Represent Us, trying to get young people engaged politically on a local level.’ Miss Lawrence, a vocal opponent of President Trump, insisted she wasn’t getting involved in ‘partisan politics’. She added: ‘It’s just anti-corruption and stuff trying to pass state-by- state laws that can help prevent corruption, fix our democracy.’
Miss Lawrence, who is understood to have split from director boyfriend Darren Aronofsky, 49, in November has a £5million mansion with pool in Beverly Hills and a £6.8million loft apartment in New York.
