Mourinho’s pal looks on bright side after Barnsley lose scrap

- RICHARD GIBSON at Oakwell

JOSE MORAIS refused to let the worst possible start to his managerial career in England dent his belief that Barnsley will stay up. Despite conceding after just 57 seconds on the way to a defeat that saw Burton leapfrog them in the drop zone, Jose Mourinho’s former assistant at Chelsea and Real Madrid said: ‘I really believe we are in a good direction and we will achieve what we want. I see players with enough quality to change our situation.’ Jacob Davenport teed up Jamie Allen’s 25-yard drive for Burton’s opener. Morais then left his technical area to jeers at the break after on-loan Manchester City midfielder Davenport made it 2-0 with a classy free-kick. But a re-shaped home side improved drastically, and were denied a late equaliser from sub Mamadou Thiam courtesy of a linesman’s flag after Daniel Pinillos’s deflected effort halved the deficit on 75 minutes.
