KNACKERED MOTHERS’ WINE CLUB

- FOOD PAIRING: BY HELEN McGINN

BARGAIN OF THE WEEK Cremant de Bourgogne (£9.60, from £12, M&S)

A SMART buy, made in the same way as champagne, but from Burgundy. It has two of the same grapes in the blend, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Crisp, fresh and full of citrus and toasty flavours.

WHITE WINE Pujalet Blanc 2016 (£5.49, Waitrose)

A SIMPLY brilliant white from the Gascony region, this blend of local gems includes the Ugni Blanc and Colombard grapes. It is lively and fresh with grapefruit and lemon flavours. And that price! Buy a bottle, sharpish.

Fishcakes.

RED WINE La Montesa Rioja Crianza 2013 (£16.95, Ocado)

SOFT-AS-SILK Rioja made mostly from the Garnacha grape, but with a bit of Tempranillo and Mazuelo, this is full of raspberry and black cherry flavours.

FOOD PAIRING: Lamb.

SPIRIT Pinkster Gin 70cl (£37.80, Majestic)

EX-ACCOUNTANT Stephen Marsh wanted a gin that wasn’t too ‘junipery’, so he began experimenting. He discovered raspberries rounded out the flavour perfectly and so Pinkster was born. Style-wise, it’s in the fruity camp. FOOD PAIRING: Smoked salmon blinis.

THE Knackered Mother’s Wine Club by Helen McGinn (Pan Macmillan, £7.99).
