Privatisation did work

I DON’T agree that privatising the utilities did not result in reduced prices through efficiencies and competition (Letters).

Following privatisation of electricity in 1997, my price per unit dropped and did not get back to the same level until 2003. Meanwhile, inflation had increased by 15 per cent.

Yes, train fares have increased for commuters, but there are bargains off peak and for advance booking.

A lack of investment meant we were still using Victorian sewers and lead pipes, and it is taking time and money for the privatised companies to rectify this.
