BBC pro-EU bias blasted
THE BBC has again been nicknamed the ‘Brussels Broadcasting Corporation’ by Tory MPs who insist it is biased against Brexit.
Critics accuse the corporation of giving prominence to anti-Brexit stories, and blaming all bad news on the referendum vote.
They pointed to the fact that yesterday morning at least four items on the hourly Radio 4 bulletin were devoted to Brexit – or the apparent effects of it.
They included a report on Unilever suggesting its decision to relocate its headquarters to the Netherlands rather than London was Brexitrelated; a senior Brexit campaigner warning that delaying full withdrawal from the EU until 2020 would cost billions; details of new figures suggesting the economy grew more slowly than initially thought in the final months of last year; and the number of EU citizens who have left the UK is at its highest level since 200 – confirming that Brexit is having a big impact.
Tory MP Andrew Bridgen said last night: ‘Sometimes it seems to me as if it is the Brussels Broadcasting Corporation. All bad news is blamed on Brexit, and all good news is despite of Brexit.’
A BBC spokesman said: ‘The BBC continues to report Brexit impartially, ensuring a balance across our news coverage.’
