Ewan ‘ditched by lover who hated being blamed for his marriage split’
HE walked out on his wife of 22 years to be with his younger co-star.
But now Ewan McGregor’s girlfriend Mary Elizabeth Winstead, 33, is said to have ditched the Fargo actor because she did not like being called a ‘home-wrecker’.
The pair’s romance was revealed last year after they were pictured kissing at a London restaurant, reportedly leaving the Scottish actor’s wife Eve Mavrakis, 51, ‘devastated’.
McGregor, 46, filed for divorce from the mother of his four daughters last month, citing ‘irreconcilable differences’.
Eyebrows were raised when he thanked his new girlfriend and his ex-wife in his acceptance speech at the Golden Globes last month, but now it seems he has lost them both.
‘Mary hated being labelled a home-wrecker and the embarrassment it caused her,’ a source told the US magazine Star.
‘It’s sad because a year ago Ewan and his wife were in great shape and then he decided to throw it all away for Mary.
‘Now it looks like he’s lost them both for good.’
Miss Mavrakis said at the weekend she ‘ hadn’t heard’ about Miss Winstead leaving her estranged husband.
Before the split, Miss Winstead is thought to have been invited to the McGregor family home when Miss Mavrakis was unaware the young actress had a crush on her husband.
McGregor is also said to have upset his ex-wife with his speech at the Golden Globes after winning the best actor award for his role in Fargo. ‘I want to take a moment to just say thank you to Eve, who always stood by me for 22 years, and our four children Clara, Esther, Jamyan and Anouk,’ he said.
He then moved on to his new girlfriend while speaking about his character Ray, saying: ‘ I’ve always loved being an actor and I got amazing actors to hang out with – and there wouldn’t have been any Ray without Mary Elizabeth Winstead.’
The following week McGregor embraced his younger lover before going to collect his Critics’ Choice award for his role.
The affair has been difficult on the family. The actor’s 16-yearold daughter Esther posted a song on Instagram about the ‘s*** I found online’, singing: ‘Seeing those pictures, they’re making me cry. And I don’t know how to forgive.’
His eldest daughter Clara, 22, posted a picture of herself in the ocean alongside sisters Jamyan, 17, Esther, Anouk, 6, and their mother during a holiday in Mexico last Christmas.
She wrote: ‘My lil family of women. Thank you Eve McGregor – we owe it all to you.’
McGregor and Miss Winstead’s representatives were approached for comment last night.
