The average driver spends 26 hours and 21 minutes every year trying to find a spot for their car, a study reveals.

Thirty-seven per cent of motorists say they find themselves endlessly circling car parks, while 5 per cent admitted they had even driven home after being unable to find a space.

A fifth have damaged their car while parking, with men more likely to do so than women, according to the study by 1st Central Car Insurance.
