FRANCE’S decision to take their match against Italy to Marseille made sense — playing in a big city nearer the heartlands of the sport. But the experiment fell flat because they could not sell out the Stade Velodrome. There were thousands of empty seats. Whether that was down to ticket prices or apathy, it was disappointing to see.
