- WILL KELLEHER

Huw Jones, the destroyer of england at Murrayfield, came to Test rugby via a winding route — and thanks to a video analyst’s insomnia. Jones’s parents were born in england and went to edinburgh university. Then his father taught at George watson’s College in the scottish capital, where Huw was born. After attending Millfield school in england, where he played in the same team as Jonathan Joseph and Mako Vunipola, the centre went on a gap year to south Africa in 2012. He worked at the famous Bishops Preparatory school in Cape Town and played casual club rugby for False Bay. Jones liked the country so much he decided to stay, studying at the university of Cape Town. He impressed in the Varsity Cup and was picked up by western Province, then super Rugby side the stormers in 2015. By chance Glasgow warriors’ video analyst Gavin Vaughan watched him play while suffering from insomnia one night in 2015, and suddenly Jones was on the radar of the scottish Rugby union. A year later he made his Test debut, scoring two tries against Australia. overall, the 24-year-old has scored 10 tries in his 14 Tests for scotland.
