After 41 injuries, this is what it means to be a Wembley winner

- By JACK GAUGHAN at Wembley Stadium

VINCENT KOMPANY was last night lauded by his Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola for his part in winning the Carabao Cup at Wembley.

The veteran trio of Kompany, Sergio Aguero and David Silva were picked out for praise by Guardiola after he won his first trophy in England by beating a woeful Arsenal 3-0.

‘They help to make City what it is right now,’ Guardiola said. ‘It’s special that they scored the three goals and they help us understand what this club means. They won titles and they put the pressure on us to win.’

Guardiola praised the City board for supporting him after a trophyless first season at the Etihad: ‘ I’ll always remember how the club backed me.’
