Corbyn’s U-turn

-

FIRST, Jeremy Corbyn reneged on his promise to cancel student loans — one of the reasons thousands of students voted for Labour.

And now he is doing the same thing with Brexit. He wants to tie us to the EU forever by pledging to stay in the Customs Union.

This is putting two fingers up at all those Labour voters in the North who voted to leave the EU. The only reason for this U-turn is a bid to try to defeat the Government and get into No. 10. God help us all.

MICHAEL CARR, Ashford, Kent. I AM appalled by the actions of the Tory Remainers and by the change of position by the Labour Party. Could I remind the Tory rebels such as Ken Clarke and Anna Soubry they had their chance to state their position before the vote, but they lost.

Labour’s reversal of position is a political decision. Jeremy Corbyn, a long-time Eurosceptic, can smell a chance to force an election so he is ignoring the outcome of the referendum. When I voted Leave, that meant coming out of the Single Market and the Customs Union — that was the point of the exercise.

All MPs should be behind the Government, so that we get the best deal with the EU, but, sadly, politics is trying to usurp democracy.

RAY SALTHouSE, Chigwell, Essex. THE ploy of Jeremy Corbyn to make a U-turn on Brexit shows Labour can never be trusted to do what’s right for the country.

He wants to cause a no confidence vote in Parliament and bring down the Government. It remains to be seen whether the self-important Tory rebels will demean themselves and vote with a Labour Party willing to abandon political standards for shortterm gain. We shall see who is trustworthy and deserving of our votes. RoGER FoWNES, Bromsgrove, Worcs.
