Kane: Refs have a duty to ignore his reputation

- By ADAM CRAFTON

ToTTenham striker harry Kane has urged referees to look past Dele alli’s diving reputation and judge every decision on its own merit after another weekend of controversy for the midfielder. alli had a legitimate penalty appeal rejected in Sunday’s 1-0 win at Crystal Palace when he appeared to be fouled by Patrick van aanholt, but also let himself down by diving over the challenge of Wayne hennessey moments later. Referee Kevin Friend did not caution alli for diving to add to the two bookings he has received for the same offence this season. asked if alli’s reputation counts against him when referees consider decisions, Kane said: ‘Yeah, sometimes you do get a reputation but that’s when we have to trust the refs. They can’t let that affect them, and I don’t think they do. They have to see what they see on the day and make a decision. The fans might jeer or boo every time but it’s down to the ref to do his job.’ Kane also insisted players are entitled to go down when they feel contact. he said: ‘It’s hard when people watch football and they don’t really understand. Sometimes players dive but sometimes you can’t get out of the way. If someone makes a challenge why should you jump out of the way? It’s their fault.’
