... as MPs get another 1.8% to reach £77k

-

MPS are to get a 1. per cent pay rise – well above the 1 per cent pay cap imposed on public sector workers.

The increase will take the basic salary of MPs to £77,379 a year, up from £76,011, said the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority. It means Theresa May’s salary will increase to £151,770. The move follows a rise of 1.4 per cent last year and 1.3 per cent in 2016.

Ipsa said the rise was in line with a 2015 commitment to adjust MPs’ pay at the same rate as changes in public sector earnings published by the ONS.

But most public sector workers have faced a 1 per cent annual pay cap since 2010.
