No extra time for legal fight to save Alfie

-

THE parents of brain-damaged child Alfie Evans have been refused more time to battle a judge’s decision that his life support can be switched off.

Kate James and Tom Evans, who are in their 20s, insist their son, pictured, is responding to treatment and want the ruling overturned.

Last month, High Court judge Mr Justice Hayden agreed with specialists at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool that further treatment of the 21-monthold was futile.

Doctors said that continuing to provide life - support was ‘ unkind, unfair and inhumane’.

Barrister Stephen Knafler QC, who is leading the parents’ legal team, told the Court of Appeal hearing yesterday that an ‘appropriate time for parental reflection’ was needed before it went ahead.

However, his request for an adjournment was denied and the appeal continues.
