Man held over gran’s murder

A MAN aged 25 has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a greatgrandmother who was stabbed to death in her home.

The body of charity worker Anne James, pictured, was found by a neighbour in Walsall, on Wednesday. Mrs James, who was described as ‘an angel with a heart of gold’, was declared dead at the scene.

Detective Superintendent Tom Chisholm said: ‘We have made significant progress with our investigation but just because we have made an arrest does not mean we do not need people to come forward.

‘We suspect Mrs James was attacked between late morning and 5pm on Wednesday and we need to hear from anyone who saw anything out of the ordinary.’

The family of Mrs James, 74, a retired nurse who collected antiques, said: ‘We are all devastated at the loss of a loving wife, mum, grandma and great-grandma.

‘She was an amazing, generous, kind, and much-loved part of our family. She will be very sadly missed.’
