Taxpayers’ £300k-a-year bill to protect the taxi rapist
RAPIST John Worboys will get round-the-clock protection costing £300,000 a year if he is released from prison.
Probation chiefs have found the 60-year-old predator – Britain’s most prolific sex offender – a special hostel to live in amid concerns for his safety.
He would also be assigned two people to guard him 24/7 from possible vigilantes.
Victims of the ex-London black cab driver, who is thought to have attacked more than 100 women, last night expressed fury at his treatment. One said: ‘The Government will pay hundreds of thousands to protect him. How is that justice?’
Worboys was jailed in 2009 for drugging and sexually assaulting women passengers.
In January the Parole Board ruled that he no longer posed a threat and should be released from a top-security prison.
Two of his victims are bringing a judicial review which will decide if the Parole Board was correct to grant his release.
But the National Probation Service has been ‘working round the clock’ in the expectation that he will leave jail, the Sunday Mirror reported.
