Coining it in

-

AS AN amateur collector of British coins for more than 60 years, I was interested in the issue of 26 new designs of the 10p based on the A to Z of Britain’s landmarks and traditions (Mail).

Unfortunately, I don’t think I have much chance of getting these coins in my change.

The coins will be ‘harvested’ by traders and bank employees and will end up being sold at inflated prices via online auction sites.

This has been going on for years with other special issue coins. I see little difference between this and the touting of concert tickets. The idea that the issue of the alphabetical 10ps will trigger a national coin hunt is fanciful.

Any map created by the Royal Mint would only show the concentration of coins in online sellers’ pockets. STEVE ADAMS, Seaton Delaval, Northumberland. I AM disappointed that the ‘B’ 10p coin commemorates James Bond rather than The Beano, which will mark 80 years as a British institution this summer. STEVE MITCHELL, London SE8.
