Now shops cash in with Easter trees
THE Christmas tradition of decorating a tree is catching on at Easter as well.
Supermarkets and stores including John Lewis are selling Easter trees and baubles in an attempt to turn the festival into even more of a money spinner.
The Party Pieces website, owned by the Duchess of Cambridge’s parents Carole and Michael Middleton, is offering an Easter tree at £19.99. And the website Notonthehighstreet has a tree which can be decorated with birds at £36.
Trees are being sold alongside Easter crackers by Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Waitrose. John Lewis has a £15 tree which can be dressed with baubles including miniature ceramic eggs.
The chain also sells carrotshaped Easter crackers which customers can fill with gifts.
Its Easter buyer, Lisa Rutherford, said the decorations are popular with families keen to ‘create new traditions’.
