Here’s to you: Melanie Griffith plays icon Mrs Robinson at 60
HOLLYWOOD star Melanie Griffith has set tongues wagging in theatreland as she takes on the role of renowned cougar Mrs Robinson in a new stage production of The Graduate.
Not, however, because the story revolves around an older woman seducing an 18-year-old — played by Dustin Hoffman in the 1967 film — but because at 60 she is one of the oldest actresses ever to perform the part. The four-time divorcee shared this picture of herself in character sporting a sleeveless black dress and voluminous blonde hair for the U.S. show.
The late Anne Bancroft was 36 when she played the 40-year-old character in the film, inset, while Kathleen Turner was 46 when she had her turn in London’s West End in 2000.
