Just make us laugh

MIDLIFE mums writing TV’s hottest shows (Inspire)? I shall start cheering when a woman pens the equivalent of Porridge or Dad’s Army.

If women writers have taken over TV, it’s no wonder everything is so serious that you’re forced to watch the news for a bit of light relief.

Some of the best TV shows were written by men for great actresses, such as Keeping Up Appearances for Patricia Routledge, The Vicar Of Dibley with Dawn French and The good Life with Felicity Kendal and Penelope Keith.

What is needed are women comedy scriptwriters who might get away from the subjects of childbirth and the menopause.

All life can be funny, but not death and murder, and there is far too much of that on TV. Please can we have brilliant sitcoms, whoever writes them. SHEILA BELL, Codford, Wilts.
