WHY JUST EAT NEEDS DRIVERS

-

SHAReS in Just eat dived more than 12pc after it revealed plans to invest £50m this year to increase its own army of delivery drivers.

Investors fled the FTSe 100 firm as its recently-appointed chief executive Peter Plumb said he would plunge millions of pounds into marketing, overseas expansion and delivery services.

Just eat differs from rivals Deliveroo and Uber eats in that it does not have many of its own delivery drivers. Rather it relies on the restaurants it partners with to deliver the food ordered through its app. Just eat also plans to work with big-name restaurants following trials with Subway, KFC and Burger King last year and wants to expand this service – so needs more of its own drivers. Laith Khalaf, senior analyst at Hargreaves Lansdown added: ‘Peter Plumb has a big job to do, to convince the market that this investment will deliver returns strong enough to justify derailing Just eat’s earnings growth.’
