Anything goes at Ascot... apart from Bardot tops!

- By Miles Dilworth

IT’S IT the highlight of the summer social so calendar, with glamorous hats ha and demure dresses a must.

But B for those who aren’t lucky enough en to get into Ascot’s Royal enclosure, en which has a famously strict st dress code, things are rather more...relaxed. m

Only O one style won’t be seen anywhere wh at this year’s races on June 19 to 23 – off-the- shoulder ‘Bardot’ necklines. ne The advice is unveiled as the Berkshire racecourse issues a style guide for the Windsor and Village enclosures for the first time.

Racegoers in the Windsor enclosure are told to ‘dress in a manner as befits a formal occasion’ , although the guide does not outlaw any item of clothing, meaning revellers could technically show up in whatever they like. In the Village enclosure it’s a little stricter, with shorts and strapless tops frowned upon, as are bare midriffs. Racegoers in all enclosures cannot wear Bardot tops – the blouse made famous by Brigitte Bardot.

Men absolutely have to wear socks, while transparent tops are a no-no. Ascot said it introduced advice for the Village and Windsor enclosures in response to ‘demand for fashionforward looks for each enclosure’.
