But he once told MPs to toe the line!
THE claims against Mr Bercow come after he told MPs they should take a tough stance against harassment and bullying.
At the height of the socalled ‘Pestminster’ scandal, which saw two members of the Cabinet resign over sexual harassment claims, he said there must be ‘zero tolerance of sexual harassment, of bullying’. He went on to label claims of inappropriate behaviour by MPs as ‘disturbing’.
In an address to MPs, he called for change to take place ‘swiftly’.
The existing code of conduct needed to be updated, Mr Bercow said, and MPs should be required to treat all those working in Parliament with ‘dignity, courtesy and respect’.
He said: ‘Make no mistake, there is a need for change. For my part as Speaker I am happy to do whatever I can. Others must do likewise.’
