HAD a bad week? Then tune in to THE FULL WORKS CONCERT (CLASSIC FM, 8PM) and try a burst of Mozart’s uplifting Symphony No 38 in D major, which is included in Catherine Bott’s selection of recordings by the German orchestra Staatskape­lle Dresden. Elgar’s Violin Concerto and Siegfried’s Rhine Journey from Wagner’s Gotterdamm­erung are also on the bill.

WORLD ON 3 (RADIO 3, 11PM) has the big-voiced men of Tyneside’s The Keelers, who have been going strong for 30 years, gathering round the microphone to deliver sea shanties and songs of the coal mines. There will also be music from fiddle and guitar duo Eryn Rae and Scott Turnbull from the Scottish Borders and songs from Ethiopian singer Haymanot Tesfam,

accompanie­d by Iranian percussion­ist Arian Sadr.

THE Gate Of Angels is a novel about quantum physics, love and fate, and is set in England just before World War I. It was written by Penelope Fitzgerald, who didn’t get anything like the acclaim she deserved during her lifetime; the novelist Joanna Trollope (pictured) picks it for A GOOD READ (RADIO 4, 11PM). Poet and writer Sabrina Mahfouz chooses The City Always Wins by Omar Robert Hamilton, while presenter Harriett Gilbert plumps for Terms & Conditions by Ysenda Maxtone Graham.
