Oyston: My father is not fit to run Blackpool
THE wretched saga at Blackpool took yet another astonishing turn after former chairman Karl Oyston said that his own father was not ‘fit and proper’ to run the club.
Sportsmail understands Karl has formally written to both the EFL and FA to express concerns at Owen Oyston’s handling of Blackpool following an embarrassing court defeat late last year.
Former club president Valeri Belokon was awarded £32.27million for ‘unfair prejudice’ after being sidelined following the surprise promotion to the Premier League in 2010. The Latvian is still owed around £25m after the Oystons missed a second instalment of £10m.
Bailiffs on behalf of Belokon raided Bloomfield Road and an Oyston estate in Lancaster earlier this week, with the end of Blackpool’s nightmare seemingly edging closer. A bitter Oyston family feud still exists after Karl was ousted as chairman in January while his son, Sam, also left his role as chief executive.
It can be revealed that Karl has taken the startling measure of telling the authorities that Owen, 84, is not fit for purpose. Karl wants a sale to limit the amount of family assets picked off by Belokon.
Owen had conceded privately that he has no option but to sell the League One club but he is resisting that eventuality in the face of Belokon’s legal enforcement. An American group has been talking to the Blackpool owner about a potential takeover.
The FA, EFL, Karl Oyston and Blackpool declined to comment.
