Injury still on my mind, says Jesus

- By JACK GAUGHAN

GABRIEL JESUS admitted the fear of serious injury is still preying on his mind after a number of setbacks. The Manchester City striker made his first start in over two months in Wednesday’s loss to Basle after a knee injury at Crystal Palace on New Year’s Eve. Jesus had come off the bench in City’s previous three matches but conceded he is not yet in the right frame of mind. ‘When you are in the game you end up thinking about the previous game when you got injured,’ he said. ‘Without wanting it, you have a bit of fear. I think I still played with some fear. But, as you play more and more, you are going to see that fear leave. Physically, I’m feeling very well.’ Jesus, 20, broke his metatarsal last season and said fellow Brazilian Neymar had been in touch after suffering a similar injury. ‘He sent me a message,’ Jesus added. ‘I explained to him how I felt, how the recovery was.’
