AS lead actor in a West End show, it was only fitting that Peter Bowles arrived at the theatre in a suitably glamourous vehicle.
So the 81-year-old was a little fed up when he had to take his Porsche in for repairs only to be told he couldn’t have a courtesy car while the work was carried out – because he was ‘too old’. Bowles, who is starring in the stage version of classic horror film The Exorcist, told The Sunday Times that Porsche had informed him: ‘After 80 we can’t insure you and you won’t be able to hire a car either.’ The To The Manor Born star – who exercises regularly and has perfect eyesight – said the decision left him ‘very irritated’.
Porsche has since denied it has any upper limit on its insurance and has provided him with a replacement car. It said there had been a ‘genuine, human clerical error’.
