Secret to curing dry skin overnight
There’S a new skincare trend — ‘slugging’ — which involves applying a thick layer of petroleum jelly to your face before you go to bed in the hope of a fresher complexion by the morning. But skin expert Dr Sarah Shah is not convinced. ‘Petroleum jelly is occlusive, so it can lock moisture in, but isn’t able to draw water from the air into the skin or provide rehydration.’ It is more beneficial to use a mask to work its magic while you sleep. The new Vichy Slow Age Night Cream and Mask (£32, Boots) works as the skin rests, leaving it looking plumped. The dark brown cream is fortified with resveratrol, which is used in Chinese medicine, and has a gentle scent.
