Will fan face driving charge?

-

POLICE faced questions last night over why they had not taken action against the man who filmed Carragher while driving.

Using a mobile phone at the wheel carries a £200 fine and six penalty licence points.

The Manchester United fan appeared to be holding the handset while driving, later pointing the camera straight ahead as Carragher’s car pulled in front.

Twitter user Kirsty Stanley wrote: ‘The dad of that lass should be prosecuted for driving whilst using a mobile phone. Not a great endorsement for child safety.’ Jennifer Lee Ryan added: ‘Why is no one outraged about the father filmingonhismobilephone …while driving with his child?’

Penalties for the offence were doubled last year, in a victory for the Daily Mail’s End The Mobile Madness campaign. However, in order to prosecute, police must determine when and where it happened, plus the driver’s identity. The fan has not been named.

Greater Manchester Police said it was looking into exactly where the incident took place.
