JONES: ATTACK COACH WOULD IMPROVE US

- By NIK SIMON

EDDIE JONES will look at bringing in a new attack coach after the NatWest 6 Nations. The Australian has carried out the role himself since taking the job in 2015, but could hire an assistant. ‘That’s one we’re definitely looking at,’ said Jones. ‘We’re always looking to see how we can improve the coaching staff. I’m looking at all areas, not just attack.’ Jones selected his fastest back three for the defeat in Paris: Elliot Daly, Jonny May and Anthony Watson. But he may be forced to re-jig his backline, with Daly a doubt for Saturday’s finale against Ireland. ‘Elliot will go for a scan today, it’s his foot,’ he said. With Nathan Hughes and Courtney Lawes on the injury list, there was better news as captain Dylan Hartley is expected to overcome a calf injury. ‘Dylan ran this morning but we need to get a medical report on him,’ said Jones. ‘I expect Dylan to be available but we will just have to wait and see. If he’s fit then he’ll be playing.’ With Hughes and Billy Vunipola both injured, new call-up Don Armand is in contention to start at No 8. Jones revealed the Zimbabwe-born back-rower is challenging Sam Simmonds. ‘We took Don on tour to Argentina,’ he said. ‘Good solid player, keeps on playing well for Exeter. We’ve got a few injuries in that No 8 spot — Vunipola, Hughes, Zach Mercer — so we’re relying on Simmonds and need another back-up in that area. Selection is up in the air.’
