Millennial rail pass launch hits buffers
THE launch of a railcard for millennials descended into farce yesterday when the website crashed as 22,000 people attempted to buy one at the same time.
Some 10,000 of the £30 passes – which offer those aged 26 to 30 a rail fare discount of as much as a third – were made available online as part of a trial. But many customers were left emptyhanded when the website became overloaded shortly after its 7.30am launch.
The Rail Delivery Group, which represents train firms, apologised and said the demand was unprecedented.
