IN A sensationa­l attack on Winston Churchill, broadcast by Moscow radio, Marshal Stalin described his former comrade-in-arms as a ‘warmonger’ and accused him of calling for an armed conflict with the Soviet Union.

He defended Russia’s actions and the ‘iron curtain across Europe’ — Mr Churchill’s words — by saying she must be safeguarde­d. In bitter words, he declared that ‘Churchill and his friends bear a striking resemblanc­e to Hitler and his friends’.

MARCH 14, 1961

PABLO PICASSO, 79, has married 35year- old Madame Jacqueline Roque ( right), the darkhaired, green- eyed ‘model’ for many of his recent pictures. There was no religious ceremony. Jacqueline, who shares his liking for a bohemian life, confided to a friend last summer: ‘He’s wonderful. I adore him.’
