THE number of people seeking debt advice has increased by 18 pc in the past five years — around one in 100 adults. More than half of all people who called charity StepChange last year were under 40. In 2013, just 45 pc of all callers were 40 or over. Younger people under 40 also made up 72 pc of all the charity’s online inquiries last year — up from 62 pc in 2013.
