NO EXTRA POLICE TO ATTEND WEST HAM’S NEXT GAME
WEST HAM’S next game will see no heightened police presence despite the chaos that overshadowed the Burnley defeat and players confessing they feared for their safety. The struggling Premier League side are set to face Dagenham & Redbridge in a money-raising match at the non-League side’s 6,000capacity home on March 21. Yet the police are not planning to increase security for the tie and still plan to send a ‘small number’ of officers known as ‘spotters’ to mingle in the crowds. West Ham’s home game against Burnley on Saturday descended into disorder with four pitch invasions, a fan thrown to the ground by captain Mark Noble and coins thrown at the directors. Given co-chairman David Sullivan was behind the fundraising fixture for West Ham’s cash-strapped neighbours Dagenham, he was always likely to attend. Yet the shocking scenes at the London Stadium may make Sullivan think twice about turning up. The 69-year-old, who was hit in the face by a coin on Saturday, is likely to be advised not to risk it. The squad are currently training in Miami.
