MARK BORKOWSKI is the author of The Fame Formula, a book that looks at the way Hollywood fixers created the celebrity industry. His interest in fame leads Mark to nominate Malcolm McLaren as a candidate for GREAT LIVES (RADIO 4 EXTRA, 6.30PM, 12.30AM). Mark knew McLaren and was fascinated by the way he manipulated the music industry for his own purposes. Host Matthew Parris remains unconvinced by Mark’s assessment of ‘the great rock ’n’ roll swindler’.

JO WHILEY (RADIO 2, 8PM) has Gaz Coombes, former lead singer of Supergrass, playing live in a broadcast from the SXSW music festival, held in Austin, Texas. Gaz (pictured) will feature tracks from his upcoming album, World’s Strongest Man. It’s a very personal

album that draws on Gaz’s experiences of depression, and looks at the responsibilities of ‘being a man, being a human, being a father’.
