REF NOT FOOLED BY ALONSO’S DIVE

REFEREE Damir Skomina had an excellent game in the Nou Camp, highlighted by his excellent reading of the ‘penalty’ incident for Chelsea just before the hour. Marcos Alonso was brilliantly found in the area after a series of passes but instead of pushing towards goal and shooting he looked for contact from Gerard Pique. Looking at replays of the incident, some Chelsea sympathisers saw a foul but in reality Alonso was fortunate not to be cautioned for simulation. The World Cup-bound Slovenian official was under great pressure from the partisan crowd but was even-handed throughout.
