his Polish counterpart, he said: ‘Our quarrel is with Putin’s Kremlin. We think it overwhelmingly likely it was his decision to direct the use of a nerve agent on the streets of the UK... for the first time since the Second World War.’
But his accusation is at odds with the Government response to the murder of Alexander Litvinenko in London in 2006. It was years before ministers blamed Moscow. Polish foreign minister Jacek Czaputowicz said: ‘We are sure that it is Russian state which is involved.’
But the Kremlin said: ‘Any reference to our President is nothing other than shocking and unforgivable.’
